Sierre-Crans-Montana funicular railway opens

After nine months of construction, the new Sierre-Montana-Crans (SMC) funicular will welcome its first passengers on Sunday.

The 4.2-kilometre-long tracks, which are over 100 years old and wind over a difference in altitude of 1,000 metres, have been completely rebuilt and the two cabins replaced.

Gilgen was allowed to supply 16 vehicle doors, 9 platform screen doors and 5 doors in the departure and arrival stations. The funicular now takes passengers from Sierre to Crans-Montana every 20 minutes and in just 12 minutes. We are proud of this project and our contribution to it.
