Custom Made Solutions

Tailor-made in Swiss quality

We have no limits when it comes to automation.
Whether you need doors or gates for tunnels, cable cars or your own project, complex tasks demand individual solutions; solutions that we can provide – for special functions and large dimensions, and for specific architectural designs.

The somewhat different solution
Our engineering team works closely with you to develop customised solutions for your individual application. Once the concept is right, we project your door system, manufacture it and install it. Everything from a single source, all developed in the best Swiss engineering quality.

Success stories

Gotthard Base Tunnel

After 23 years of construction, the official opening ceremony of the Gotthard Base Tunnel took place on 1 June 2016. A pioneering achievement that has caused a sensation around the world. Gilgen Door Systems AG is also involved in this project.

Due to the specifications, it was not possible to use the components from the Lötschberg tunnel. Prototypes had to be developed so that they could be tested and subjected to load changes before the contract was awarded. Even the EMS safety rails had to be manufactured with a special rubber compound. Based on the test results, the systems were further developed and released for tender. Gilgen Door Systems AG, in collaboration with Elkuch Bator, developed and executed the drives and doors.
developed and executed. A total of 389 doors and 13 gates were installed in the Gotthard Base Tunnel. The 353 transverse doors (transverse tunnels between the two tubes) and the installations of the emergency stops have to withstand enormous pressure. The requirement is 10kPa, i.e. 1000 kg per m2. With a wing size of 2 x 2.2 m, this corresponds to suction and pressure forces of 4.4 tonnes. Pneumatic seals are used to ensure that the wings remain tight under these enormous loads. The four lane-changing tunnels are separated by huge, 2-wing fire doors, each with a wing weight of 9 tonnes and a size of 3.6 x 7 metres. The lane-changing tubes are used to allow trains to change tubes in the event of an emergency and to separate individual tunnel sections for maintenance work. The emergency stop doors serve to ensure that train passengers can be evacuated safely in an emergency. Buses will pick up passengers from the emergency stops. To prevent the ventilation system from collapsing (ventilation short-circuit), 6 passenger and 2 vehicle locks are installed on the outside.
are installed.
